From adhoc patching to automation

Our client approached us regarding OT patching management to mitigate cyberattacks against hardware and software vulnerabilities. Our goal was to create a quarterly schedule for all OT systems.

The challenge we faced was ad-hoc patching and many OT locations with no network access to SCCM distribution points or still attempting to use legacy WSUS systems.

  • We set up ADRs in four separate SCCM instances servicing the entire APAC region and ensuring we had SUGs correctly updated and distributed.
  • We cleaned up boundary groups across 25+ sites and worked with networks to open firewall ports through to each PCN.
  • We developed a SharePoint page with standards, schedules and processes that could be referenced to business owners.
  • We created work instructions to help troubleshoot issues with SCCM clients, firewall ports, patch install failures.
  • This resulted in an automated patching option for server business owners, providing them with 10 windows during each quarter that they could choose to include their servers into.
